Candle of the Month for September 2018

If your idea of a college study session involves a dim-lit pub, ancient wooden booths and some of the sharpest literary minds around, then you're in luck. This unique take on a back-to-school scent is inspired by the famous Oxford literary discussion group (aka book club), home to both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Writers have often found comfort in the back corner of a cozy pub, so grab a pint and pull up a chair. Get whisked away into a world where authors gathered to critique each other, fueled their imaginations and encouraged each other to create masterpieces.

autumn bliss

A lovely scent that permeates the room without overpowering it -- my candle was one of the ones with a wax issue, so I've been digging out the wax and using it in a diffuser, which actually might be the best possible result: it keeps the scent steady and even throughout the house, especially when it's on for several hours at a time. It's not as heavy on any of the major named scents as some other candles, but that's likely what makes it so great!

Give it a chance

At first I was not to impressed with "The Inklings". The strong scent of oak from "Oxford Library" and tobacco from "Sherlock's Study" had me excited for this new spin with cider included. After the first burn I didn't really notice the smell all that much and chalked it up to the scent just being milder than I prefer. After the third burn or so I found that I was very wrong. Much like "Headmaster's Office" the scent does not stand out immediately, but after the burning has gone on for awhile it does something that the stronger candles do not. "The Inklings" is the type of scent that makes the room smell wonderful in a natural way, as if there is no candle burning but the smells are from the room itself. Stronger candles may stand out immediately but its obvious to everyone that a candle is burning somewhere because no room naturally smells like the ocean or pumpkin. I have a new appreciation for the milder scented candles such as "The Inklings" because of their ability to naturally make my room smell like a cozy pub. Give this one a chance, and think about this the next time you don't immediately notice the scent of the candle.

A new fall favorite

This candle smells amazing; it's a great autumn scent. I really love the fresh apple scent of the cider, and the warm sweetness of the tobacco. The oak helps keep the whole thing from becoming too sweet. I'm burning it in a smallish room (my office), and I feel that the scent throw is just right for the space.

Hanging out with Sherlock and Watson during a crisp fall afternoon

To me, this is like Sherlock's Study but light. I guess "Sherlock-Lite." The cider smoothes out the tobacco so that it isn't as heavy as the Study version. The oak is a rather nice addition too and prevents the cider from getting too sweet. The scent places me on a cold fall afternoon or evening in front of the fire in Sherlock's study, cozied into John Watson's chair with a blanket and some hot cider. Sherlock is sitting in his chair, smoking his pipe and gesticulating with it, ashes falling, while discussing aspects of a case with Watson who is calming sitting by the window, shaking his head and giving his own 2 cents. What a way to spend an evening...
